What was previously called custody or primary custody has been codified in Florida Statutes and is now termed parenting time.
The statute establishes various elements to assist the court in making a final determination regarding how much “time sharing” each parent has with their children. Before this final determination is made by the court, parents have the obligation to mediate, basically creating a parenting plan that conforms best to their schedules. If they cannot agree, then the court will decide.
